Hot Chocolate
The kid-friendly one that grown-ups also order.
Hot chocolate at The Rose is the drink the small human in the booth orders and then the parent orders halfway through because it looked that good. Dark chocolate forward, sweet but not candy-sweet, mini marshmallows melting on top. It's the drink for the first cold snap of the year and the half-hour between innings at the youth soccer game across the street.
Tasting Notes
- Flavor: dark chocolate forward, mellowed by whole milk, marshmallow sweetness on the finish
- Body: creamy, whole-milk weight
- Finish: chocolate, with a soft marshmallow aftertaste
How We Build It
Steamed whole milk and dark chocolate sauce — three pumps for the 12oz, four for the 16oz — stirred together while the milk is still foaming. Mini marshmallows go on top as the default; ask the barista to skip them and we will. Non-dairy milk substitution works beautifully here, especially with oat; the drink stays rich even without the dairy.
Perfect For
The first cold snap of the year. The hour between youth soccer games at the field down the street. Pair with pretzels — we know it sounds wrong — the salt makes the chocolate pop in a way nothing sweet can.
